Ilısu, the Lifeblood of SAP, Counting the Days | Star / 12.01.2018

Ilısu HEPP, the world’s largest concrete-filled rockfill dam, was made ready for energy production. An important phase in the construction of Ilısu Dam and HEPP project, the vision project of the Southeastern Anatolia Project (SAP) which was constructed by the State Hydraulic Works of the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, was successfully completed. In Ilısu Dam, which consists of 6 units and has 1200 megawatts of installed capacity with each unit of 200 megawatts, the wheel belonging to the 6th and final unit with a weight of 40 tons and a diameter of 4.2 meters was successfully landed to the ground. With this operation, the 6th unit was also made ready for power generation. 87% physical completion was achieved in the concrete structure of the project and cover assembly works commenced in the overflow brink structure. Prof. Dr. Veysel Eroğlu, Minister of Forestry and Water Affairs, noted that the construction of Ilısu Dam and HEPP, which is one of the shining projects of our country, successfully continued and said: “This project, which constitutes one of the most important two pillars of SAP, is the vision project of our country. Ilısu Dam will increase the welfare level of our region with the contribution of providing both energy and irrigation to the country’s economy. It will also provide great support for employment in the region.
