ILISU DAM RENAMED AS VEYSEL EROĞLU DAM / ANA HABER | JUNE 9, 2020

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that Ilısu Dam was to be renamed Veysel Eroğlu Dam, after the former Minister of Forestry and Water Affairs. He noted that leaving behind works that will earn the prayers of the public is a matter of destiny, and said: “We see it as our greatest success to have brought our country to an environment that is home to competition in service politics, and not in fights, conflicts, polemics or minor works. Those who cannot understand this major change will try to survive by exploiting the common values of the public rather than by making use of the services, works and project politics, and we watch them with a smile on our faces. While the world is suffering from the coronavirus pandemic, we are experiencing the joy of watching the products we produce, which will each serve as pioneers in their respective fields, emerge. We have placed the last block on top of the 318-meter tower of the bridge in Çanakkale, which will be one of the largest bridges in the world, with its 2023 meter central span. The tower commemorates the 18 March Victory. It is a privilege for us to be completing the Ilısu Dam, one of the largest projects in the GAP (Southeastern Anatolia Project) region, which has now been renamed after Prof. Dr. Veysel Eroğlu in recognition of his efforts since the groundbreaking phase.”
