President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said: “Ilısu Dam, which is Turkey’s fourth largest dam with a total installed power of 1,200 megawatts, and the second largest dam in terms of fill volume, is the number one dam in the world in the concrete-coated rockfill dam category.

President Erdoğan attended the Commissioning Ceremony of the 1st Turbine of the Power Plant of Ilısu Dam via a video link-up. Stating that the first unit, which has a capacity of 200 MW, was commissioned in the first phase, President Erdoğan provided the following information about the hydroelectric power plant, which has a total annual energy generation capacity of 4.1 billion kWh: “By putting into service one turbine each month, we will have commissioned Ilısu with full capacity by the end of the year. The total cost of Ilısu has reached 18 billion liras, taking into account the expenditures for relocations, the protection of historical and cultural artifacts, the construction and other expenses. We expect the dam to generate 2.8 billion lira in revenues on an annual basis.”
