1st Turbine of Ilısu Dam, The World’s Largest Dam, has been commissioned

The 1st turbine of the Ilısu Dam, which is the second, third, and fourth largest dam in terms of embankment volume, storage volume and installed capacity, respectively, has been commissioned on May 19th, 2020. Ilısu Dam is also the World’s Largest Dam in terms of the volume and length of its embankment among the concrete-faced rock fill type dams.

Located on the Tigris River within Mardin province, this concrete-faced rock fill type dam project with a concrete section, which is underway under the Nurol – Cengiz Joint Venture established to carry out the Ilısu Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant Project, has an embankment volume of 23.76 million m3 and the annual energy production of its power plant that has an installed capacity of 1.200 MWh is 4.120 GWh. The height of the dam from the foundation is 131 m, and its maximum water elevation is 528.87 m. The planned completion date of the project is June 2020.
