Having started generating electricity last month, Veysel Eroğlu Dam, the 70-year dream of Turkey, is expected to provide Turkey with considerable strategic power and to contribute 2.8 billion lira to the Turkish economy. Veysel Eroğlu (llısu) Dam, which is among the most significant projects of the Republic of Turkey, serving the provinces of Mardin, Diyarbakır, Siirt, Batman and Şırnak, was opened on 19 May with the attendance of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The ceremony was marked by Erdoğan with the following sentence: “I believe the wind of peace, brotherhood, prosperity and peace, that will blow from Ilısu Dam will be felt in these lands for centuries.”
